The Role
As an Edge Platform Engineer - Akamai - Assistant Team Leader, you'll combine deep technical expertise with team leadership responsibilities, driving the reliability, scalability, and performance of a mission-critical application delivery platform. You'll own the design and optimization of Akamai services, mentor engineers, champion automation, observability, and engineering best practices across the team.
Within your first six months, you'll lead key optimization initiatives across Akamai Ion, GTM, and Edge DNS environments, establish measurable team KPIs, and implement improvements that enhance platform performance, resilience and operational efficiency.
What You'll Bring
- 7+ years of experience in DevOps, Platform Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or Infrastructure Engineering
- 3-5+ years of hands-on experience architecting and managing solutions on the Akamai platform, including Akamai Ion property configuration and advanced rule management
- Strong experience with Akamai GTM, Edge DNS, WAF, Bot Manager, mPulse, and DataStream 2
- Deep understanding of DNS, TLS, certificate lifecycle management, and public-facing application security
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS
- Strong knowledge of HTTP/S, caching strategies, redirects, headers, compression, and CDN optimization
- Experience designing and troubleshooting end-to-end request flows between Akamai Edge, cloud, and on-premises origins
- Proven experience implementing Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and testing practices
- Strong technical documentation and stakeholder communication skills
- BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and team development experience
Nice to Have
- Experience with AI-assisted engineering tools, configuration analysis or operational intelligence platforms
- Knowledge of multi-origin architectures, origin shielding and advanced traffic management strategies
- Relevant Akamai, AWS or cloud infrastructure certifications
