Principal Engineer - Gen AI, Marousi, Hybrid (2-3)
AI ArchitectOur client is a global software company operating in the renewable energy sector, delivering software platforms for utility-scale solar, wind, and battery storage operators across international markets. The role exists as part of the company’s continued investment in generative AI capabilities embedded within its core platform and customer-facing workflows.
The Role
You’ll contribute to the development of AI-powered capabilities across the platform, including natural-language interfaces, retrieval-augmented systems, and agentic workflows integrated with operational and analytics services. You’ll work closely with engineering and product teams to design scalable AI systems while contributing to evaluation, optimisation, and platform integration practices.
Within your first six months, you’ll be expected to contribute to production-grade generative AI features, improve evaluation and observability practices for LLM-powered systems, and help establish pragmatic engineering standards around model integration, latency, reliability, and cost optimisation.
What You’ll Bring
- 6+ years of professional experience in applied machine learning or AI engineering
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience shipping large-language-model-powered systems into production
- Deep expertise in retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), tool-use/function-calling, agentic systems, prompt engineering, and model evaluation methodologies
- Strong systems-engineering capabilities with the ability to diagnose performance issues across retrieval, model, and application layers
- Production proficiency in Python and TypeScript
- Demonstrable experience making pragmatic technology decisions, including identifying when generative AI is not the appropriate solution
- Fluency with AI-assisted engineering and agentic coding workflows
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
Nice to Have
- Experience applying AI solutions within industrial or domain-specific environments
- Published work or research related to AI evaluation or applied AI methodologies
- Experience with managed AI platforms across major cloud providers
What’s in it for You
The role offers a salary commensurate with experience (€5000 - €6500) and the opportunity to work on advanced analytics for large-scale battery energy storage systems. It follows a hybrid working arrangement, with two days onsite and three days remote each week in Athens. Additional benefits include a monthly meal allowance, private health insurance, and an annual bonus.
