Senior Backend Engineer (Python/Django)

A fast-growing Greek fintech scale-up building payment infrastructure products for Southern Europe is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer. The company is expanding its core platform team to support EU licensing growth, focusing on scalable, high-performance systems within a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

The Role

You'll own the design and delivery of high-throughput REST and async APIs that process millions of transactions per day. In your first six months you'll ship the new reconciliation microservice end-to-end and drive adoption of async task patterns across the backend. You'll mentor two mid-level engineers and contribute to architectural decisions on the roadmap.

What You'll Bring

• 5+ years of professional backend development experience
• Deep expertise in Python 3.x and Django/Django REST Framework
• Production experience with PostgreSQL query optimisation and migrations
• Hands-on with Celery, Redis, and event-driven architectures
• Strong grasp of RESTful API design, versioning, and security best practices
• Fluency in English; Greek is an advantage

Nice to Have

• Experience in fintech, payments, or regulated environments
• Familiarity with Kafka or RabbitMQ for event streaming
• AWS (ECS, RDS, SQS) production experience
