Senior Backend Software Engineer
Other/DevelopmentOur client, an international deep tech company developing high-performance engineering software used across industrial sectors, is seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join its team based in Greece.
The Role
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on the backend services and infrastructure that power a compute-intensive scientific software platform. You will build the APIs, data layers and orchestration systems that run large workloads across both cloud and on-premise compute clusters, working alongside domain specialists and infrastructure engineers to make the platform faster, more reliable and easier to scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and evolve backend services and APIs that manage how compute jobs are submitted, scheduled and tracked
- Design data management solutions for large computational outputs, covering storage, caching and synchronization
- Consolidate and standardize the interfaces between the platform’s backend and its Python client tools
- Connect on-premise compute clusters with AWS to create a unified, hybrid compute and storage environment
- Run and tune Kubernetes infrastructure for distributed, resource-heavy workloads
- Manage high-performance compute clusters and improve how CPU and GPU capacity is allocated and used
- Own infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines to keep deployments consistent and repeatable
- Set up monitoring and observability to give visibility into platform health and workload performance
- Contribute to the security of the platform, including authentication and access control
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a related field
- Solid professional background building backend systems in Python, Java or C++
- Strong hands-on experience with AWS or another major cloud provider, across compute, storage, networking and IAM
- Proven experience designing APIs and backend services
- Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience building and running distributed systems at scale
- Strong Linux skills and a methodical approach to troubleshooting infrastructure issues
- Working knowledge of Terraform, Ansible or similar automation tools
- Experience with logging, metrics and alerting tooling
- Good grasp of networking concepts and secure backend design
- Comfort working in a fast-moving, startup-style environment
Nice to Have
- Experience combining cloud resources with large compute clusters or HPC environments
- Exposure to workload schedulers such as Slurm or to distributed data and compute frameworks
- Background in scientific, engineering or research computing
- Experience managing GPU infrastructure
- Experience building internal platforms or developer tooling
What’s in it for You
€6,500 to €9,000 gross/month, along with the chance to work on demanding infrastructure problems where cloud engineering meets high-performance computing. The role is remote for candidates based in Greece, and engagement via a limited company (B2B basis) is preferred. You will join a well-funded, growing company where your work directly shapes the scalability and reliability of its core platform.
